چکیده

Scanning electrochemical microscopy ~SECM! has been integrated with electrochemical atomic force microscopy ~EC-AFM!, and applied for in situ studies of localized corrosion of Al alloys in NaCl solution. The instrument utilizes a dual mode probe, which functions both as a normal cantilever and as an ultramicroelectrode. The I −/I 3 − redox mediator was used for mapping of local electrochemical current. Concurrent topography and electrochemical activity maps have been obtained on the same surface area with micrometer lateral resolution. Preliminary results show ongoing localized dissolution related to intermetallic particles in the Al alloys, which may occur well below the breakdown potential. © 2005 The Electrochemical Society. @DOI: 10.1149/1.1911900# All rights reserved.

NANO- SCALE LOCALIZED CORROSION STUDIES OFEN AW- 3003ALALLOYBYSEM-EDS, SKPFM AND IN-SITU AFM

Abstract: Localized corrosion of aluminum alloys is often triggered by intermetallic particles, IMP’s. To understandthe role of IMP’s in corrosion initiation of EN AW-3003, efforts were made to combine nano-scale ex-situ analysis ofthe IMP’s by SEM-EDS, SKPFM and in-situ AFM monitoring of the localized attack in chloride containing solution. The results showed that two distinct types of eutectic...

Electrosynthesis of Polyaniline-TiO2 Nanocomposite Films on Aluminum Alloy 3004 Surface and its Corrosion Protection Performance

The direct synthesis of polyaniline-TiO2 nanocomposite coatings on aluminum alloy 3004 (AA3004) surface has been investigated by using the galvanostatic method. The synthesized coatings were characterized by FT-IR, SEM-EDX, SEM and AFM. Optical absorption spectroscopy reveals the formation of the emeraldine oxidation state form of polyaniline-TiO2 nanocomposite. The corros...

Corrosion Behavior of Novel Mg-9Li-7Al-1Sn and Mg-9Li-5Al-3Sn-1Zn Alloys in NaCl Aqueous Solution

Corrosion behavior of two multiphase Mg-Li-Al-based alloys in 0.6 M NaCl aqueous solution is investigated by hydrogen gas evolution measurement and electrochemical test. This paper reports, for the first time, the comparison of hydrogen evolution and Tafel extrapolation results of Mg-Li-Al-based alloys. The corrosion rate of Mg-9Li-7Al-1Sn is observed to be reasonably higher when compared to th...

INVESTIGATION ON THE MIXTURE OF CALCIUM AND AMMONIUM NITRATES AS STEEL CORROSION INHIBITOR IN SIMULATED CONCRETE PORE SOLUTION

Abstract: Despite having a number of advantages, reinforced concrete can suffer rebar corrosion in high–chloride media, resulting in failure of reinforced concrete structures. In this research the corrosion inhibition capability of the mixture of calcium and ammonium nitrate of steel rebar corrosion was investigated in the simulated concrete pore solution. Cyclic polarization and Electroche...

Investigation of corrosion protection properties of TiO2-CdO nanocomposite coating prepared by sol-gel method on copper

the Sol–gel nanocomposite coatings have been investigated for copper metal as a potential replacement for the hazardous and banned hexavalent chromate conversion coatings. TiO2–CdO nanocomposite thin films were deposited on copper using the sol–gel method. The sol-gel coatings were prepared using a sol obtained by the hydrolysis and condensation of tetra-o-butyl titanate. They were doped with c...
